A little shopping, Mexico Gun Fights

This morning went pretty fast. Linda and I ran down to the dollar store. Needed one item and walked out with many more. Never fails. Just before noon Dale Bruss & Bonnie Quinn pulled up in front and wanted to know if I want to go help Danielle Mayer look at chair fabric, sure never pass up a day out of Retama. So off we went. Unfortunately the store Danielle wanted to go to didn't open until 1pm so we went to another furniture store and a Dollar Tree. Once the store opened we spent a couple of hours there looking at all the fabrics and she was able to find a few to bring home.

I'm sure you've seen on TV the fighting going on in Mexico. Luckily the place we go to called Nuevo Progreso hasn't had the problems that others have. Progreso is a tourist town that relies on visitors coming across the border for probably 90% of their income. We've been down there in May just before we leave here and the majority of the vendors and most of the smaller shops are closed up. So I feel safe in going there. Now Reynosa is another matter, the bridge to cross there is about five miles from here but there's just been too many gun fights. No Thanks!!!

Even tho I don't like seeing these when you cross the border I think it's made a big difference in keeping the town we go to safer.
I didn't take this picture as your not allowed to take any photos of the military. I found this on the web but you see this and guys standing behind sand bags before getting into town. What's not good is seeing these down on a side street with the guys all pointing their guns at something. This only happened once and Larry kept pushing me along so I didn't get a very good look.

The rest of the evening was pretty quiet, we didn't even have a happy hour as the wind was just blowing to hard to be comfortable sitting outside. We did go for our nightly walk with Danielle/Jack/Poppy around the park but it was a struggle when we were walking against the wind.

That's it for now. Welcome Chicago IL and Livingston TX. Thanks to readers from Bacliff TX and Lansing MI. Till next time.............................................
