Last spring before leaving Texas several couples decided we would try to take a trip this winter to San Antonio and see the RiverWalk with it's Christmas Decorations. Shortly after we all arrived in Retama we got together to finalize our plans on when and where to stay. After lots of searches on the internet we decided to stay at the Sheraton Gunter Hotel as it was right on the RiverWalk and we wouldn't need to use a car once it was parked. Here's a picture of the hotel. It was built in 1909 and is a beautiful old hotel, it's claimed to be haunted by a woman who was murdered there and her body was never found.
Before getting to the hotel we decided to stop at a few of the Mission. Below is the Mission Espada which was completed in 1756.
Here is Marilynn, Gary, Dave, Linda & Larry reading one of the information posts.
The next one was called Mission Concepcion. It was moved to it's present site in 1731 from Eastern Texas
The last picture is of Mission San Jose which was completed in 1782. My full picture of the Mission didn't turn out so here is a couple of close up's. Larry and Gary really got into looking at the carvings.
As you probably guessed from seeing us in coats it was very cold and even tho the sun was out the wind went right to your bones. Once we left the Mission we went to our hotel and checked in. Tomorrow I will download pictures of our first night on the RiverWalk so be sure to come back.
