Southern Comfort to Southern Chill

No I'm not talking about the liquor Southern Comfort, I'm talking about our warm temperature on Wednesday going to a deep chill today. I checked the weather forecast and back home in Michigan there was a "winter advisory" calling for 6-8 inches of snow. Our local papers and news stations here are warning people how to drive on hazards roads, bring pets in, and how to prepare your home for the winter blast. OK, give me a break. You would have thought they were calling for a foot of snow.

I'll admit I've become one of the biggest wimps when it comes to temperatures under 70 degrees. I enjoy seeing snow when it comes to me by way of an attachment on my email from my family. They can write how beautiful it is seeing it fall to the ground. Ya right - it's beautiful alright as long as your sitting in front of the fireplace with the furnace cranked up to 80 degrees. But at some point and time you run out of food and the dreaded trip out the door is required. Now how beautiful is it when your putting on three layers of clothing just to run from the house to the car. Or driving on roads that are covered with slush and snow that requires both hands on the wheel to keep it on the road and a pry bar to separate your white knuckles from it. After fighting the crowds in the grocery store you get to begin the adventure all over on the return trip home. Yes family and friends up north, keep those pictures coming and I'll return my pictures to you of us sitting outside in shorts under a big blue sky with maybe that glass of Southern Comfort in our hand.

But back to our forecast. Yes we are expecting some very unseasonal type weather here. The high on Friday is suppose to be 37 and they are calling for night time low of 27 with wind chill of around 20. Plus there's a chance of sleet in the afternoon. Will we be cold - damn right we will, will we moan and groan about it - you bet ya . There's not a good way of keeping these motor homes and fifth wheels warm in those temperatures with 25-30 mph winds. But ya know what - it could be a lot worse. We don't have to put up with this for the next three to four months. It only takes one day of sun and 80 degrees and you forget the deep down cold in the old bones.

So to help fight the cold there is a group of us meeting at the clubhouse with big pots of hot soups. A vegetable, chicken noodle and my white chicken (made with turkey) chili. We'll sit around complaining how bad it is and this isn't what we planned when we head south in the fall. But there is one thing we won't have. SNOW

Take care, stay warm. Till next time.............................................
