Trip to Flea Market

Friday we went for our walk down the levee in the opposite direction. We stopped and talked with a County worker who was working on the road and he was telling us they were going to be putting a flood gate on the road between the two levee's. This is about six feet lower and I guess with the flooding last summer this area (only road that goes into the State Park) was the only spot where water crossed. Should be interesting to watch this and hopefully they have it completed before the next 100 year flood.

As I said we walked west on the levee to a area that we've never gone. I've been a little concerned about going this way, there is no road and the border patrol are the only ones that drive along there. Plus not far from there seems to be where the helicopters hover looking for illegals. But we walked about a mile and a half down and it was nice. State park on one side and fields on the other that didn't have anything planted - ground was worked up so something is going in there.

When we got back we decided to drive over to the Don West Flea Market which is about a half hour from here. It's one of the biggest ones around but wouldn't you know we picked one of the days they are closed. Gee sh - like I'll be able to get Larry down there again this year. The fruit market across the street was open so we did go there. Got a whole pineapple ($3), seedless watermelon ($2) and some 4 cukes ($1).

We did drive down to a couple of stores just on the US side at Mexico. Thought about going over to Mexico but it was already after noon so we'll go there next week sometime. Larry found the bath tub he wants, it's a hand beaten copper tub with a price tag of $3800.00 - ah don't think so.

Stopped on the way home in Hidalgo for lunch. Nice little Mexican cafe but the young girl didn't speak much English. Hidalgo has a unbelievable Festival of Lights in Dec., we went down there a couple of years ago and the whole town gets into decorating. I believe they start putting the lights up the first of Oct. The only bad thing about this town is it's right on the River across from Reynosa. Yes this is the Mexican town that has had so much violence. Not sure what the turn out will be this year on their xmas tour, not sure I'd want to be in that area after dark.

I was going to fill you in on what our day was like today (Saturday) but this blog is long enough. So you will have to come back tomorrow. Currently 74 degrees at 9pm, loving it. One more thing - need to say Happy Birthday to my big brother Bob Bishop and also to my sister in law Gail Moore. Hope you both had a great day. Till next time........................
