Newsletter- Gun Range–Border Patrol

Just another day in Retama

Border Patrol

Well maybe not every day but where else can you sit back and watch a TV show from your own living room. Lots of excitement early this morning with ATV’s, Mission Police and the Border Patrol cars and vans pulling into our park one after another. When it was all over they collected about 20 illegals that were hiding in a new construction home. One of our residents who seems to always have a good view has been asked to host a “Count the illegal” party with coffee and donuts on these early morning adventure’s. Of course it would be a BYOB (bring your own binoculars).

The rest of the week hasn’t been quite as exciting but non the less busy. One morning Larry and I went down to the gun range. I decided I wanted to try aiming at a target a little further away so had Larry put it at the 32ft one. Lets just say I won’t be posting that target picture. But he did get the laser fixed so now I want to get back down there and see if I can do better. They had another poker gun competition this week where you buy so many shots for $5 and all the $’s goes to things for the range.

Well I’ve gotten myself involved big time in our community. Do to changes in the Advisory Committee it was decided they needed to create a separate Activities Committee. Yup you guest it, not only am I on it but I’m the Chairperson. Luckily there are some neat ladies that I’ll be working with and we are in the process of getting things organized for the 2013/14 season before we all take off for our summers locations.

And if that’s not enough I and Kathy Detweiler got together one morning at the clubhouse to do some computer stuff. It turned into a “what if” conversation and from this we now have our very first weekly newsletter called Retama Connections.

And your wondering what Larry says about all this. Not a thing – did I mention how smart my husband is.

So that’s it for this week. Time to head over to the Puppy Park for a little while.

Till next time………………………………

Garage Sale–My Valentine Present

Our annual garage sale was today. I resigned this year from this duty. After the big event and than the craft night I didn’t really want to do it. But Bonnie stayed on to help the new volunteer Sheri and everything went really great. The residents all were very pleased with the turn out and most pretty much sold all they had. Of course the sale was suppose to start at 9am but they were lined up at the front gate by 8am.

On Monday Larry rode over to Corpus Christi with Mark who had a Dr’s appt there. His wife Dale is in Atlanta with her father who wasn’t doing well but glad to say her father is out of the hospital and much better. While Larry was gone I decided it would be a good day to clean my carpets. So got our Little Green Machine out and proceeded to spend the next several hours on my hands and knees. It really wasn’t to bad until that night and I was reminded my knees and back are not 20 years old. But the carpets/chairs/sofa are done and look good.

Last week our new grandson Dar’Relle was pictured in a local paper back home. He’s a Senior this year and his basketball team has been doing good. So thought I’d share the picture with you.

Dar’Relle is in the blue and number 3412243554-standard

Yes that’s our new baby grandson.

Tuesday was the monthly community meeting. There’s going to be some changes in the responsibility of the Advisory committee which I don’t think some of them like. They have been told by the owner they will have to take back some of the responsibility that this committee had when first organized. Won’t go into detail but I honestly think everyone is really making this out to be more than it needs to be. But we’ll see.

Wednesday was the ladies luncheon. Was a little surprised that our turn out was a little low but it was still a good time.

Thursday Marilynn and I met Linda C and her daughter Barb who was visiting this week for breakfast at Renee’s. Had a great time getting to know Barb and of course enjoyed our breakfast.

Friday we went out with Mark to a new Chinese place for dinner. We went there a few weeks ago and really like the place. It has turned out to be a favorite eating place of Retama’s residents as we ran into several couples there from our park.

OK, so would you like to know what my Valentine present was from Larry. Well I’ve mentioned before about Larry going to the gun range that we have here and I’ve gone a few times with him. He’s been after me to shoot his Kahr 40 cal. Well I’ve watched him shoot that thing and I was sure it would come back and hit me in the nose.

But today I was presented with my very own Bersa 380 cal. And here’s a picture of it.

So this afternoon we went over to the range and I got to shoot it. First I want to say it didn’t kick back and break my nose like I thought it would. Kind of scary the first time but after that I was able to open my eyes and really enjoy it. I had to bring my target poster home and take a picture of it so I could show you. For those of you who don’t know the blue tape is placed over each hole so you know where a new hit was.

I’m thinking of taping this outside our door with a plaque saying    This home is guarded by Linda

Not bad for someone who would never even tough a gun. OK I’ll admit I was only about 20 feet away but just give me time. Soon I’ll be joining Larry and the others on the competitions they have there.

Guess that’s about it for this week. Larry’s watching the MSU game so guess I’ll find something on the other TV.

Till next time………………….

Mystery Dinner at Retama

Yesterday was our annual Mystery Dinner and the story was titled “What Happened to Sam Disney” & the Million Dollars.  Ten of our most talented (or untalented) residents volunteered to get up in front of 140 of their neighbors and make complete fools of themselves just for our enjoyment. And they all did their jobs very well.

The audience.

Other then being really windy the evening was warm and the dinner that was served (pulled pork) was perfect.

The rest of the week was pretty uneventfully. We went out for pizza on Friday with friends Bill/Kathy and our favorite visitor Joyce who comes every year and spends time in their coach house. So I guess I’ll have to leave you with a short blog this week.

Till next time…………………………

A little slower week and pictures

As I said last week I would post a few pictures of the Walk thru the Village.

Here's the entrance
The cooks were ready to serve the Frito Pies
One of the 42 residents who opened their places
If you would like to see more pictures just click on the Album and it will go to our Snapfish account.

I thought I would slow down a little but this last week seemed to be a busy one too. At least it wasn't all Retama stuff. Tuesday I had a hair cut appointment and my friend Kathy went with me. Afterwards we did a little shopping for things she needed than had lunch at Oriental Kitchen.

Wednesday I worked on getting information from residents who were going to put their items out for the Artist Event (more on that later). Thursday morning was the weekly ladies breakfast at Diaz Diner. There was 22 of us and that place isn't very big but we had a good time and good breakfast.

After I got home Larry and I went up to the clubhouse and got the tables set up for the Wine-Cheese-Artist Event that night. I had 18 people signed up to bring their crafts up so I needed to get things arranged and names on places so they knew where to put their items.

Of course the reason for the Event - WINE
Here's a sample of some of our talented residents
If you would like to see more pictures go to this Album. Everyone had a great time admiring all the talent we have in our park and of course finishing off 58 bottles of wine didn't hurt the evening either.

Friday I met Linda at the mall and we had a nice catch up visit over coffee before making the rounds of a few stores. Linda moved away from Retama a couple of years ago and we both miss our talks so we try to connect every few weeks.

While I was out running around Larry kept himself busy with the train set and going over to the gun range.

I have one picture I have to share of Pepper. My friend Kathy took a picture of her last week. The picture had my foot in it along with the lease and other things. She has this program that she could cut Pepper out and put a totally different background behind her. Really is a neat program.
Pepper has her "Birthday Girl" button on that she wore on her special day. The ear is up because it was really windy and Kathy caught it at just the right time.

That's it for this week.  For the rest of the winter I don't plan on getting involved in events. Just sit back and enjoy ones that other people are in charge of. Of course Larry will be glad, I can never seem to get involved in something with out including him.

Till next time..............................
