Meet George

Let me introduce you to George. He arrived in our neighborhood sometime Saturday on Doug and Jutta's lot. Now we try to welcome all new residents here in Retama but he just wasn't going to fit in. So Doug took him hopefully a long ways away and released him to find a new home.

It's been raining all day and from the sounds of it tomorrow will be the same. That wouldn't be so bad except the temperature went from 72 degrees this morning to currently 50 and tonight down in the mid 40's. The temperatures doesn't look to good for our trip up to San Antonio's River Walk. Only staying a couple of days but plan on taking the computer so may do a post if I have time. Otherwise it will be this weekend. Till next time..........................

Day 2 of Thanksgiving

Well here we go again, just a different location. These are our friends that we had dinner with on Thursday, now we are at Rollie and Gina's place.
Here is Rollie with the mail dish of our left overs. He deep fried another bird just in case.

Some left overs ha.
Had to take a picture of our walk back to our place after dinner.

Turkey Day 2009

HAPPY 2009 TURKEY DAY
Had a wonderful day with friends here in Mission Texas
The only thing that could of made it better is if we had our kids and grand-kids with us.
Sure did miss them.

Thanks to Larry's help with peeling potatoes and mashing them it didn't take long to get the 10lbs done and in the crock pot to stay warm. The day started early for us. Not sure why since we didn't have to do the turkey but by 4:30am we were both up and on our computers.

This morning we had coffee and rolls with a group of friends that we wouldn't be having dinner with. We love spending time with these folks as there is never a lack of stories being told that keep us in stitches. Yes those are sweat shirts everyone has on, got down in the 50's.

Here is one of our tables. Each group of eight was assigned a table and since there was fifteen of us we needed two. We also ended up bringing two small tables to hold the food. We have enough food left over (as usual) we'll be having dinner together tomorrow night.
Here is a few of the neighbors arriving for the big dinner.

Our little flower garden

The Aloe plant has come in handy a couple of times when Larry spent a little too much time in the sun. I'm not sure what the plant is behind it but has pretty red flowers and the one in front of it has white flowers.
Here is our Aloe Plant. Would you believe we just planted this last spring, it must really like the location cause it's doubled in size. Each lot has a small garden area between sites and even tho our truck blocks these plants we are able to see our neighbors from our kitchen window.

Can you believe how fast this month has gone, we've been here for almost two months already. Tomorrow we will be having dinner with friends up at the clubhouse so I'm sure there will be a few pictures to post.

Monday Marilynn, Linda and I went out to try and find information on the River Walk at San Antonio. We will be going up there next week for a few days and hope to find something about it at the local tourist place. But we didn't so we'll have to use what's on line. More on this trip later.

Guess that's it, till next time........................

Mystery Dinner @ Retama

Last night was "Mystery Night" up at the clubhouse. I think the last count was 74 people attending. We've never been to one of these but we had a good time and good food. Mother Nature again was kind to us with clear skies and no wind while we sat out on the patio. But by the time dinner was served it was getting dark and the temperature was starting to drop to the lower 60's and it was't long before people disappeared and returned with coats. Saturday morning is always coffee and donuts starting at 8:30 for anyone that is up and around by that time. Actually by than we've already had our piece of toast so it's more our mid morning snack but some people just arent' early birds around here. Each week the group has gotten a little bigger but normally it's the same people every Saturday. We just take turns making the muffins or what ever to go along with the coffee.

Larry's been working on the front bumper of the truck this last week. I asked him just what he was doing to it and of course had to give him my "sure I understand all this" face. But the bottom line is he's re-glueing something that's holding something that's making something else rattle and come loose. He's also filling cracks and sanding the front so the bumper can be repainted. See the "I understand face" wasn't a total fake. James who owns Camco Trailer Repair here in town offered to spray paint it for Larry. For anyone in this area that needs trailer/truck work done this is the place to go. Pretty much everyone here in the park that's needed something done has taken it to James as he's always given good service at a fair price.

Sorry no pictures today. I forgot to take my camera up to the dinner last night. Mark Bruss had his but he said they weren't coming out good and if he could lighten them up some he'd send them over. So maybe later I'll have some.

I'm really enjoying this new blog and try to post a little something every few days. Until next time...............................

Trip to Mexico

Donna and I went to the restaurant while Larry and Grant stopped for their $2.00 shoe shine. This is our waiter Jesus. If I hadn't been there I'd swear Donna already had her second margarita but honest we hadn't even given our order.

One of the vendors goods. They paint these while you wait and watch. It's amazing to see what they are able to do in such a short time and on so many different things.

Here's Larry getting his $4.00 haircut.

Here's one of the many street vendors. Sidewalks are full of booths and tables selling little trinkets,

Progreso Mexico has a lot to offer. You can stop in and get your haircut and nails done before going next door to have your teeth whitened. Than on to get that botox treatment and if needed stop in the pharmacy and pick up the medicine. Now on your way out of town you slip into the liquor store for your favorite beverage and just in case you hit that last drug store and pick up some viagra. Sure can't do this in the good old USA.

Retama's Ladies Luncheon

Today was the monthly ladies luncheon up at the clubhouse. We're starting to get a little crowded in the dining area but guess it makes it cozy. A really nice turn out, I think only just a few weren't able to make it. If you look close you'll see a couple of young granddaughters in the picture. I wonder what they were thinking sitting around all these old ladies that were laughing a the silliest things.

Welcome to our new blog

Hi Everyone, take a look at our new blog. Thanks to our good neighbor and friend Jutta who set this up for me I'll be able to post pictures and write about it instead of having to go to another link. I think you'll like this site a lot more than the other, I know I will. This is just a test to make sure I could download the picture which by the way was taken here in the park. We have lots of hummingbirds flying around. In the next few days or so there's more things that will be added so keep checking back.
